Melbourne newly-weds Becca Harley and Daniel Smith have been given a second chance to experience their dream honeymoon after winning a $5000 travel prize while holidaying on the Gold Coast.
The couple travelled to the Coast in November for their first honeymoon and could not afford to holiday overseas at the time.
While waiting for their flight home, they purchased a meal at Hungry Jacks and entered Gold Coast Airport’s Shop & Fly Mega Giveaway.
Ms Harley said the pair was planning to spend their winnings – a $5000 Webjet eGift card – on a three-week trip to Thailand.
“We really wanted to go overseas for our honeymoon but we couldn’t afford it,” she said.
“We had a great time on the Coast, staying at Springbrook and Surfers Paradise, and were on our way home when we filled in the entry ticket. When I heard we had won the prize I was just in shock – I thought it was a joke! I’ve never won anything before.”
The competition attracted almost 8000 entries from passengers who spent $20 or more at one of 27 participating stores at Gold Coast Airport during the busy summer holiday period.
Five runners-up will receive $1000 vouchers from Webjet.
Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton congratulated all winners in the competition and thanked participating stores for their enthusiasm in promoting the competition.
“Every year we like to hold a competition to give our passengers a little extra fun activity while they wait in our departure lounge,” she said.
“This was the biggest response we have had to date, and we are thrilled with the outcome. Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to our partners and retailers that participated in the competition.”
Runner-up prize winners, who will receive a $1000 Webjet eGift Card each, include T. Rewiri (Qld), D. Craft (Qld), K. Rawson (SA), M. Brennan (Vic) and W. Paton (NSW).
An exciting selection of retail outlets are on offer at Gold Coast Airport, including Surf Dive ‘n Ski, Seed Heritage, Mac Cosmetics, Victoria’s Secret, Sunglass Hut, Rolling Luggage, Tech2Go, newsagencies, Heinemann Duty Free as well as a wide range of food and beverage outlets to suit all tastes.
