Gold Coast Airport’s most popular team member, Gary the therapy dog, is marking a special milestone today: his 2nd birthday.
To celebrate the occasion and thank him for all his good work, the team at Gold Coast Airport hosted a special birthday party for the Labrador cross, complete with doggy cake.
After months of extensive training, Gary was recruited to the Gold Coast Airport team in December, to help members of the travelling public who may be nervous flyers or experiencing any other anxieties or apprehensions, as well as our wider customer base, to have a more enjoyable experience.
Gold Coast Airport General Manager of Operations and Service Delivery Brett Curtis said Gary had already proved his weight in gold.
“Gary has proven a hit with our passengers – adult and child alike – over the last couple of months,” Mr Curtis said.
“You can tell when Gary is in the terminal from all of the smiles on the faces of our passengers and staff in the check-in hall, a welcome gift especially over the busy holiday period. We have been pleased with the reaction he has had from everyone.”
Gary is stationed in the main check-in hall inside the Gold Coast Airport terminal and is on hand to meet and greet guests with a friendly wag and a furry cuddle at designated times each week.
The AmbassaPaw Program follows the launch of a similar initiative at Gold Coast Airport’s sister port – Townsville Airport – last April, which too has proved extremely popular with passengers and staff alike.
