GCA celebrates 10 years of roaring success with Tigerair

November 23, 2017

Gold Coast Airport is today celebrating 10 years since Tigerair first pounced onto the Australian market with its inaugural Melbourne-Gold Coast service.

Since the carrier’s inception, Tigerair has delivered nearly 6 million seats into and out of the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said the commencement of Tigerair services to the Gold Coast was a game changer for the region.

“Over the years, Tigerair has provided some of the lowest domestic airfares we’ve ever seen, which has resulted in more Gold Coasters being given the opportunity to travel at an affordable cost,” said Ms Charlton.

“Since its first full year operating out of the Gold Coast in 2008, the airline has doubled its services to nearly 50 outbound flights per week.

“Currently Tigerair operate Sydney and Melbourne routes out of the Gold Coast. Demand for these routes is strong with Gold Coast – Sydney the 4th busiest domestic route in Australia and Gold Coast – Melbourne the 7th busiest domestic route in FY17.

“We are proud to have worked collaboratively with Tigerair over the last decade, and look forward to our future together.”

Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said the decade long presence of Tigerair on the Gold Coast signalled confidence in the region.

“Tigerair’s inaugural flight to the Gold Coast heralded a new era in domestic aviation competition.”

“After 10 years of ferrying passengers from around Australia, Tigerair’s connectivity to the Gold Coast remains important to the growth of tourism in the destination.”

To celebrate the 10 year milestone, Tigerair are offering fares from just $10* to Sydney and Melbourne out of the Gold Coast. *Ts&Cs apply – visit https://tigerair.com.au for more information.
