GCA and Scoot deliver inaugural plane spotting photography competition

July 21, 2017

Gold Coast Airport (GCA) in collaboration with Singapore-based carrier Scoot, have today launched the 2017 Plane Spotter Photography Competition aimed at engaging local aviation enthusiasts and encouraging their interest in aviation.

The competition gives the community the opportunity to gain exclusive airside access to photograph aircraft flying in and out of GCA, and thanks to Scoot will this year see one lucky entrant win two return flights to Singapore.

GCA Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said this year’s competition would likely attract a large amount of entries, particularly due to the quality of prize on offer.

“We have been running these competitions for a few years now, but this is the first time in Australia that an airport has partnered with an airline to deliver this type of event as well as offer a prize,” Ms Charlton said.

“The competition provides a great platform for us to be able to build on our relationship with the local plane spotting community.

“It’s easy to understand why we have such a large spotter following here on the Gold Coast; with more than 380 aircraft movements a week, GCA’s unique beachside location and busy airside environment makes for a great location to plane spot.”

Jared Simcox, Scoot Country Manager for Australia said he was pleased to be partnering with Gold Coast Airport to deliver the 2017 plane spotting competition. “We truly value the interest and the following of the plane spotting community around the world, and their images beam our aircraft and operations into a dedicated and loyal audience.

They produce some incredible images that inspire travel, and encourage connection with the airline industry as a whole. We are happy to surprise them and give them the chance to travel on one of our beautiful Boeing 787 Dreamliners that they photograph so often,” said Mr Simcox.

Entries must include an image of a Scoot aircraft flying in or out of the Gold Coast, with preference being given to photos which showcase not only the aircraft, but also the Gold Coast and northern NSW region.

Submissions will be assessed by a judging panel, comprised of airport management and Scoot. Up to 30 of the best entrants will then be selected to attend a special morning airside on Saturday August 26, photographing aircraft movements from an exclusive location. Of these winners, one will be drawn at random to win a trip to Singapore with Scoot.

Photographers on the day will also receive a tour of the Scoot Dreamliner before it departs to Singapore.
