From circus activations to live music and special guest appearances by Goldie, our mascot, Gold Coast Airport is gearing up for a bumper school holiday period in the next few weeks.
This year’s busy spring holiday – which kicks off with Queensland and Victorian schools breaking up for the term today – is expected to be a busy season, particularly when the October long weekend is factored in.
The travelling period is expected to be extended by this year’s separation of the AFL and NRL grand finals over two weekends, on September 28 and October 6 respectively.
Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said planning had been undertaken to ensure travellers enjoyed their journey through the airport during the holiday season.
“Holidays are always a busy period for us in the terminal, so it’s crucial we do everything we can to ensure our customers are well catered for and their journey is as seamless as possible,” she said.
“We’ve got some wonderful entertainment lined up, so hopefully we can add a smile and some extra cheer to the holiday period.”
Special performances by Byron Bay-based Sacred Circus will see performers rove throughout the terminal in the lead up to the October long weekend.
The airport’s popular mascot, Goldie, will be accompanied by his captain as he visits the terminal over the coming weeks, while live music will continue.
More than 1.1 million passengers passed through our gates in September and October last year, with similar activity expected this year.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their journey ahead of time, with those wishing to park their vehicles at the airport advised to get in early and book online for the best deals.
