Confessions of an
adventure lover

What’s your favourite adventure activity in Melbourne? Cycling. Melbourne has a fantastic cycling community and the roads around Port Phillip Bay were just made for cycling. Beach Road is very popular and on any given morning 1000’s of cyclist converge to go for a ride, catch up with their cycling buddies and have an obligatory coffee in one of the many cafes afterwards.

What other adventures in indulgence in Melbourne can you recommend? Obviously Chapel Street in South Yarra/Prahran for shopping! You’ll find hundreds of stores that will suit every budget and taste. A trip out to the Yarra Valley or the Mornington Peninsular is a simply stunning way to while away the day, hopping from winery to winery and sampling the local produce.

Best shopping bargain or tip?
When shopping in long shopping strips like Chapel Street, go with your gut instinct! If you like it, get it, because it is a long walk back at the end of your shopping adventure if you decide you can’t do without the gem you saw earlier in the day!

Favourite museum, art gallery, exhibition or place that just blows your mind away? The Ian Potter Centre at the National Gallery of Victoria for its collection of Australian Art. It is at Federation Square, where the architecture itself is pretty mind-blowing.

What’s the biggest thrill in Melbourne?
Anzac Day. The Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance is an unforgettable way to start the day. I always follow it up with the annual blockbuster AFL match between Essendon and Collingwood, where some 90,000 don their team scarves and converge on the MCG. It always sends shivers up my spine when I hear the siren and the roar of the crowd and the after the Last Post is played.
