Gold Coast Airport (GCA) is Australia’s sixth busiest airport, welcoming about 6 million passengers annually.

As we pave the way for the future, we invite you to have your say on our 2024 Preliminary Draft Master Plan – a document outlining GCA’s vision for the next 20 years.

The Airport’s importance to the region

GCA plays an integral role in supporting the local economy, connecting families, industry and communities, and facilitating better health, job, and social outcomes for the region.

The estimated economic impact of GCA to the region is $514 million in Gross Value Add (GVA). The tourism GVA contribution facilitated by travel through the airport is $1.14 billion and overnight visitation is worth an additional $1.04 billion to the local economy.

About the Master Plan

The public consultation period for the Preliminary Draft Gold Coast Airport Master Plan 2024 runs from Monday 18 March until Friday 14 June 2024 (5pm).

Gold Coast Airport Pty Ltd is required, under the Airports Act 1996 (Cth), to prepare a 20-year Master Plan to guide the development of existing and proposed airport land uses and facilities.

Key feedback received so far

GCA consulted with the Gold Coast Airport Community Aviation Consultation Group (CACG) prior to public consultation to capture clear points of feedback for consideration throughout the Master Plan development process. Key feedback from the CACG included:

Aviation Planning

Freight and curfew

Flights should continue to operate within curfew
Preference for aircraft movements within daylight hours
Preference for lower emissions and quieter aircraft

Runway

Runway should not be extended
Forecast growth in flights over the life of the Master Plan

Precinct Planning

Light rail or passenger rail on-precinct

Accessibility of station locations

Ground transport

Improved pick up / drop off facilities
Consideration for a multi-storey car park

Environment & Sustainability

PFAS

Encouragement for airport to work with Airservices Australia on management measures
Acknowledgement of PFAS within Master Plan, including statements on Problem, Method and Timeline for action of station locations

Noise

Importance of accurate and verified ANEF/N60/N70 contours for the community
Ongoing noise monitoring both north and south of the airport

Community engagement

Clear understanding of the Master Plan engagement strategy

Habitat loss

Management, monitoring and report of impacts of development

Air quality

Monitoring and reporting aircraft emissions
