REGION SET TO REAP REWARDS OF SINGAPORE DIRECT SERVICE

Gold Coast Airport and the region’s wider tourism industry yesterday celebrated the announcement that Scoot Airlines will commence a direct Singapore – Gold Coast service on June 12 this year.

The service, scheduled to operate five times per week, will put the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers regions on a new level as a desired travel destination internationally.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Paul Donovan said the new service will provide access to and from the region from just about anywhere in the world.

VISITORS WILL ‘SCOOT’ TO THE GOLD COAST DIRECT FROM SINGAPORE

The Gold Coast’s $4.5 billion tourism industry has continued its positive momentum in 2012 with confirmation today that Scoot Airlines will fly five times a week from Singapore to the Gold Coast.

The announcement comes after months of collaboration between the new Singapore based airline and a cross-agency consortium of Gold Coast Tourism, Gold Coast Airport, Queensland Government, and Tourism Australia bosses.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer, Paul Donovan said the announcement is extremely exciting and further cements the Gold Coast’s status as an international travel destination of choice.

Gold Coast Airport Boosts Local Economy

Gold Coast Airport have welcomed news that airline partner Jetstar continues to increase services to and from the region’s two biggest markets, Sydney and Melbourne.

In December 2011 Jetstar commenced four extra weekly services on the Melbourne route and have this week announced an additional daily service on the popular Gold Coast – Sydney route, commencing 1 April 2012.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Paul Donovan said the decision by Jetstar to base their fourth new A320 aircraft on the Gold Coast would not only benefit tourism to the region but would also provide employment opportunities.
